  • s   Thousands suffer from snake bites, globally, every year 
  • s   People who live near wilderness/trekkers - more prone 
  • s   Even bite from a harmless snake can cause allergic reaction 
  • s   Fang marks 
  • s   Swelling/severe pain at the site 
  • s   Bloody discharge from wound 
  • s   Burning 
  • s   Diarrhea 
  • s   Excessive sweating 
  • s   Blurred vision 
  • s   Numbness/tingling sensation 
  • s   Increased thirst 
  • s   Vomiting
  • s   Fever 
  • s   Loss of muscle co-ordinations 
  • s   Convulsions 
  • s   Rapid pulse 
  • s   Weakness/Dizziness/Fainting  
  • Treatment
    a. Seek Medical help as soon as      possible.   Meanwhile -
    • s   Wash wound with soap/water
    •   Immobilize the affected area 
    • s   Keep area slightly elevated 
    • s   Apply cool compress/wet cloth to affected part 
    • s   Apply a firm bandage 2-4 inches above bite to
      i. Prevent venom from spreading
      ii.Take care of any bleeding
    b. Monitor for pulse, respiration and blood pressure

    Prevention
    • s  Do not attempt to kill a snake. 
    • s  If you spot a snake, leave it alone 
    • s  While hiking or in the woods, stay out of tall grass 
    • s  Do not put your hand into pits/crevices during treks 
    • s  Exercise caution while climbing rocks
