Mimiko, who clocked 59 yesterday, had joined other dignitaries from across the nation at the Akure Airport to receive the corpse of the former governor when he heard about the tragic accident.
Programmes scheduled to mark the birthday of the governor were suspended because of the sad occurrence.
The governor had, on Wednesday, called on the people of the state to troop out and honour the former governor during the burial activities.
The body of Agagu would have arrived at the Akure Airport at 9a.m. before the governor was informed about the plane crash in which some family members of the late former governor and some state officials were involved.
Mimiko, who was visibly shaken by the news, immediately withdrew to the Government House in Alagbaka.
