Jihadis To Syrian Christians: ''Convert To Islam Or You Will Be Crucified Like Jesus''

“You don’t know when and you don’t know where they hit,” says Amir, a 55-year-old Christian merchant. “Life here is often too difficult.”
The mortars have repeatedly hit in his mainly Christian district of Damascus, al-Qassaa, reportedly killing at least 32 people and injuring dozens of others the past two weeks.
Rebel shelling into the capital has increasingly hit several majority-Christian districts, particularly al-Qassaa.
The shelling and recent rebel assaults on predominantly Christian towns have fueled fears among Syria’s religious minorities about the growing role of Islamic extremists and foreign fighters among the rebels fighting against President Bashar Assad’s rule.

Sleeping too much or too little linked to chronic diseases

A new study finds that too much sleep, as well as too little sleep, is linked to leading chronic diseases, such as diabetes, coronary heart disease, obesity and anxiety in those aged 45 and over.
The study defines too much sleep as 10 hours or more, and too little as 6 hours or less.
Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report their findings in the October issue of the journal SLEEP.
Study co-author Dr. Janet B. Croft, a senior chronic disease epidemiologist in the Division of Population Health at the CDC, says:
“Some of the relationships between unhealthy sleep durations and chronic diseases were partially explained by frequent mental distress and obesity.”

Yoga And Obesity

Obesity is a condition that arises, when the body weight exceeds the requisite normal weight. Accumulation of fat deposits in the body tissues results in obesity.

Nature has laid down health laws for all creatures. When a person starts eating beyond a normal limit set before him, he breaks the health law and imbalance sets in. Such a condition of the body is not good for any individual. Indiscriminate eating without any wisdom to control leads to an obese individual. The fast life of modern times has caused this malady, affecting the lives of many.

Causes of obesity:

We can attribute many causes to obesity.

  1. Stress plays a vital role in causing obesity. Psychological disturbances propel a person to seek comfort in food -such a person may consume excess food. Children suffering from such disturbances, tend to become obese.

Phobias

The word phobia comes from the Greek word for fear (φόβος, fobos). In medical terms 'Phobia' is an anxiety disorder. It is estimated that in USA - 5.1% to 21.5% people suffer from some kind of phobia.
Women are more prone to have a phobia and this can be the cause for serious disability.
The opposite of the suffix -phobia is a - philia or -philie (meaning "love of").
There are many more phobias described than what are medically acceptable to be called a 'mental anxiety disorder'. Some of these phobias actually mean a 'negative attitude towards something.'
Medindia's 531 listed phobias include both types.

Sex keeps you healthy..........Dr. Oladapo Ashiru

Men who have sex at least twice in a week can almost halve their risk of heart disease, according to new research. This study was conducted with over 1,000 men.
Sex is an activity that involves intense physical and emotional elements. Sexual intercourse may be a marker for a healthy heart because sex can be a form of physical activity which, like exercise, gives your heart a workout. People who have a desire for frequent sex, and are able to do so, are likely healthier overall; especially because men who have regular sex may also be in a supportive relationship, which offers stress reduction and emotional benefits.
The medical world is finding that regular sex is so good for you that when you go to see a doctor, they are asking many questions about your sex life to give them an indication of your overall health. Apparently, sex is not only good for your heart, it also keeps many other illnesses away.

“A policeman refused to let go of his rifle and he almost fired some shots.
Recent research has found that breast milk has the ability to protect babies from getting infected with HIV.
Researchers say that they have found a component in breast milk which has the power to destroy the virus that causes AIDS.
"Even though we have anti-retroviral drugs that can work to prevent mother-to-child transmission, not every pregnant woman is being tested for HIV, and less than 60 percent are receiving the prevention drugs -- particularly in countries with few resources. There is still a need for alternative strategies to prevent mother-to-child transmission, which is why this work is important," study senior author Dr. Sallie Permar, an assistant professor of pediatrics at Duke University.

New Cosmetic Treatment to Rejuvenate Vagina

New Cosmetic Treatment to Rejuvenate VaginaEarly next year, a new non-surgical cosmetic procedure to rejuvenate the vagina is set to hit the United Kingdom.

The non-surgical cosmetic treatment, 'Labial Puff', is a vagina rejuvenation jab that promises to boost volume, reduce wrinkles and add elasticity to the vagina in just 15 minutes, the Daily Express reported.

The new filler procedure called 'DesirialR' by Vivacy, which is targeted at post-menopausal women, will plump up the vaginal area and restore the shape of the vagina as the loss of oestrogen can affect the vagina leaving the area deflated, dehydrated and wrinkled.

The revolutionary procedure, which is launched by Dr Kathryn Taylor-Barnes, contains hyaluronic acid, a moisture-boosting chemical found naturally in the deep layers of the skin, which is already used in many facial fillers.

What electronic gadgets can do to you

what electronic gadgets can do to youA gadget is a device or appliance having a unique purpose and function. At the time of their invention, gadgets are often way ahead in terms of novelty and uniqueness. This is what makes them so desirable and ‘cool.’
That modern gadgets have changed the world is an understatement. No one wants to go back to the days of no television, no Internet and definitely no cell phone.
Each day, tech companies churn out the latest versions of laptops and mobile phones, while household and kitchen appliances are not left out.
While it is easy to get caught up in the rave of the moment, there is increasing scientific evidence linking ‘electropollution’ to the rise in cancer, birth defects, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer’s disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, depression, learning disabilities and even Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
According to the World Health Organisation, ‘electronic smog,’ created by electricity, is “one of the most common and fastest growing environmental influences.” Experts therefore warn that it is important that one is fully aware of the ill effects of these modern gadgets on health.
Researchers at Carnelle Montelle University, Toronto, Canada, in a report titled, “Tech Injury,” give a brief outline of how these gadgets impact human health.

The Bosavi woolly rat is the size of a small domestic cat, weighing about 1.5 kilograms and measuring 82 centimetres in length from its nose to its tail.
It was discovered in the crater formed by the extinct volcano, Mount Bosavi.

Three die in Egypt church attack

Three people, including a girl aged eight, died when gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on a wedding party outside a Coptic Christian church in Cairo, BBC reports.
At least nine others were wounded in the attack in Giza, officials said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Egypt’s Coptic Christian community has been targeted by some Islamists who accused the Church of backing the army’s overthrow of President Mohammed Morsi in July.
The unidentified attackers fired indiscriminately as people left the church.
A man and a girl were killed outside the church and a woman died on her way to hospital.
“We heard a very loud sound as if something was collapsing,” one eyewitness said.
“I found a woman seated in a chair with lots of bullet wounds, covered in blood. Many other people had fallen around her, including a child,” he added.
Coptic priest Thomas Daoud Ibrahim said he was inside the church when the gunfire erupted.
“What happened is an insult to Egypt, and it’s not only directed against Coptic Christians. We are destroying our own country,” he said.

Low-fiber diet tied to higher cardiometabolic risk

A new US study that analyzed data from a large national survey has found a significant link between diets low in fiber and increased cardiometabolic risk, a cluster of risk factors that increases a person's chances of having diabetes, heart disease or stroke.
The researchers report their findings online in the latest issue of The American Journal of Medicine.
There is already a wealth of evidence that diets high in fiber can help lower blood pressure, cholesterol and cardiovascularinflammation.
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommends men aged 19-50 should consume 38 g of fiber per day, and women of that age should consume 25 g. The recommended levels for older people are 30 g a day for men over 50 and 21 g a day for women over 50.
Different foods have varying amounts of fiber, and in some cases the differences can be surprising. For instance, a 30 g serving of corn flakes has just 1 g of fiber, whereas a cup of lentil soup has 12 g.

Migraine sufferers more likely to have depressionA large new study from Canada finds that people who suffer from migraines are also more likely to have depression and think about suicide than counterparts who do not have them.
Researchers from the University of Toronto analyzed data from a representative sample of more than 67,000 people who took part in the 2005 Canadian Community Health Survey and looked for gender-specific links between migraine anddepression.
Over 6,000 of the participants reported having been diagnosed with migraine, and in line with previous studies, migraine was found to be much more common in women (1 in every 7) than men (1 in every 16).

Red wine, grape skin compound could treat cancers

A new US study suggests that resveratrol, a compound present in grape skin and red wine, could help treat several cancers.
Researchers at the University of Missouri (UM) School of Medicine found the compound made melanoma cells more susceptible to radiation treatment.
The findings follow earlier similar findings from UM that showed resveratrol sensitizesprostate cancer cells to treatment.
The researchers now want to find a way to use the compound to treat a variety ofcancers. One of the challenges is finding a means to deliver the compound into tumors.
Senior investigator, Michael Nicholl, assistant professor of surgery at the MU School of Medicine, says:
"Because of difficulties involved in delivery of adequate amounts of resveratrol to melanoma tumors, the compound is probably not an effective treatment for advanced melanoma at this time."
He and his colleagues report what they found when they lab-tested the effect of resveratrol on two radio-resistant melanoma cell lines, in a recent issue of the Journal of Surgical Research.

Vitamin D supplements do not prevent osteoporosis

Hip X-rayTaking vitamin D supplements does not improve bone mineral density, a study involving more than 4,000 healthy adults published in The Lancet has found.
With almost half of adults aged 50 and older in the US using vitamin D supplements, the authors conclude that continuing widespread use of these supplements to prevent osteoporosis in healthy adults is needless.
Professor Ian Reid from the University of Auckland in New Zealand and study leader explains:
"Most healthy adults do not need vitamin D supplements. Our data suggest that the targeting of low-dose vitamin D supplements only to individuals who are likely to be deficient could free up substantial resources that could be better used elsewhere in healthcare."
Prof. Reid and colleagues from the University of Auckland conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of all randomized trials examining the effects of vitamin D supplementation on bone mineral density in healthy adults up to July 2012.

Quest for wealth: Couple sell daughter for iPhone..........Nawa o!

SHANGHAI (AFP) – A young Chinese couple are facing criminal punishment for “selling” their infant daughter and using the proceeds to buy an Apple iPhone, state media said Friday.
Shanghai prosecutors have brought a case against them for human trafficking after they illegally put their third child up for adoption online and accepted money for the baby, the Liberation Daily reported.
Investigators found the mother, whose full name was not given, used the money to buy an iPhone, high-end sports shoes and other goods, it said.
Apple’s products are wildly popular in China, where a teenager sold his kidney and used the funds to buy an iPhone and iPad in an incident widely reported last year.
But the couple told police that they wanted the girl to have a better upbringing than they could afford, since they already had two children.
“Giving away the child was not for obtaining benefits, but giving the child better guarantees,” one said.

Synagogue drama feathers Jim Iyke’s love story

Synagogue drama feathers Jim Iyke’s love storyMany still believe that the public were merely treated to a drama, the day Jim Iyke was said have fallen to the ground several times at the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN). If indeed that was fictitious, a sequel is already trending, with the actor’s stylish marriage proposal to Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari.
Buari, the fair-skinned screen diva, played up the romantic lines on her tweeter handler, capturing them in a story that makes a good prose:
“What kind of wedding would you like?” he asked, and stole another kiss before she could reply. “…The kind that turns you into my husband.” She touched the firm line of his mouth with her fingers. What kind would you like?” He smiled ruefully, saying: “A fast one.”

Drugs for hypertension shown to decrease risk of Alzheimer's disease dementia

A Johns Hopkins-led analysis of data previously gathered on more than 3,000 elderly Americans strongly suggests that taking certain blood pressure medications to control blood pressure may reduce the risk of dementia due to Alzheimer's disease(AD).
In a report published in a recent edition of the journal Neurology, a team of researchers found that people over the age of 75 with normal cognition who used diuretics, angiotensin-1 receptor blockers (ARBs) and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors showed a reduced risk of AD dementia by at least 50 percent. In addition, diuretics were associated with 50 percent reduced risk in those in the group with mild cognitive impairment.
Beta blockers and calcium channel blockers did not show a link to reduced risk, the scientists reported.
