Cerebrovascular Accident

A cerebrovascular accident is the medical term for a stroke. A stroke is when blood flow to a part of your brain is stopped either by a blockage or a rupture of a blood vessel. There are important signs of a stroke that you should be aware of and watch out for. If you think that you or someone around you might be having a stroke, it is important to seek medical attention immediately. The more quickly you get treatment, the better the prognosis. When a stroke goes untreated for too long, there can be permanent brain damage.

More benefits of beer

benefits of beer
Reduced cancer risk: A Portuguese study found that marinating steak in beer eliminates almost 70 per cent of the carcinogens, called heterocyclic amines produced when the meat is pan-fried. Researchers theorise that beer’s sugars help block HCAs from forming. Scientists also have found that beer and wine contain about the same levels of antioxidants, but the antioxidants are different because the flavonoids found in hops and grapes are different.

7 million deaths linked to air pollution annually

Black soot produced by burning refinery by-products at a petrochemical complex south of Lyon, FranceIn new estimates released today WHO reports that in 2012 around 7 million people died - 1 in 8 of total global deaths – as a result of air pollution exposure. This finding more than doubles previous estimates and confirms that air pollution is now the world’s largest single environmental health risk. The new data reveal a stronger link between both indoor and outdoor air pollution exposure and cardiovascular diseases, such as strokes and ischaemic heart disease, as well as between air pollution and cancer.
